Milk Carton All-Star of the Week...(May 4, 2009)

As I mentioned last week, we here at BoomRoastedSports(or America's Favorite Sports Website as it's referred to in the Leonardis household) are bringing out a new weekly feature called Milk Carton All-Star of the Week. The premise, incase you're too lazy to scroll down, is that every week we are going to showcase an obscure athlete that may or may not at one point been noteworthy. While I promised Gabe that this week's winner was going to be former Arizona Diamondbacks one-hit wonder Junior Spivey, I figured all the shock value was taken out by mentioning 5 days in advance, so I bring to you a new Milk Carton All-Star of the Week...(Note: I'm trying to get larger images for these guys, but as you can imagine, it's hard to find large layouts of guys nobody's cared about for years......bear with me.)

This guy, incase you can't read the small print, is former journeyman catcher/first baseman Jamie Quirk. Quirk played for 17 seasons in the majors mostly with the Kansas City Royals and Oakland A's. While in Oakland, he backed up All-Stars Terry Steinbach and Mark McGwire. Quirk's career numbers are immensely impressive(sarcasm alert). He's a lifetime .240 hitter and his powerful swing helped him finish with 43 home runs in nearly two decades in the majors.....or for better reference, 6 homers fewer than McGwire's rookie season total.

Ladies and gentleman, your Milk Carton All-Star of the Week: Sweet swingin' Jamie Quirk.
