Epic Win for Richmond

As the (self-appointed) Boom Roasted Sports FCS (1-AA) football guru I feel the need to comment on the Aaron Corp transfer. (Sad as it might sound, I spent more time watching FCS post-season football than bowl games this year.)

The story was first reported by WTVR in Richmond, but it all over the place now.

The quick and dirty is like this...Aaron Corp, destined to be Matt Barkley's back-up at USC, has transferred to perennial CAA power, and FCS title-contender, Richmond, and immediately given the nickname "1-AA Jesus in football cleats." (Rumor has it he is coming to Richmond after considering UVA. How's that for an indictment of a football program?)

The rich in the CAA just got much richer.

Two quick thoughts:

1. I think Richmond is immediately the no. 1 FCS team in the country.

2. We've seen this story before, at my beloved James Madison University, with a kid named Justin Rascati. He was playing football at Louisville. The problem was a guy you may have heard of named Brian Brohm. Rascati was a year ahead of Brohm in school, but two spots behind him on the depth chart. So Rascati brings his game to tiny Harrisonburg, VA, promptly takes the starting quarterback job from Matt Lezotte, and one year later leads JMU to a 1-AA national title, thereby guaranteeing he and head coach Mickey Matthews will never again have to pay for a martini in H'burg.

So, in summation, I hate that Richmond got this guy, because that means they are going to be great during his tenure, but I think it's hilarious that UVA did not get him. Boom. Roasted.
