Milk Carton All-Star of the Week: 1/20/2010

As if getting trampled 34-3 by the Vikings wasn't enough pain for Cowboys fans, I figured I would throw in another kick while they're down by honoring one of their own as this week's Milk Carton All-Star.
..
The man seen before you is two-way star Chad Hutchinson. Hutchinson's initial claim to fame was as a pitcher, most notably with the St. Louis Cardinals(where he pitched all of four innings and gave up 11 runs). Frustrated with his lack of success on the diamond, Hutchinson was wooed by Cowboys owner Jerry Jones to bring his mediocrity to the NFL. The fact that Hutchinson was tall, wore the #7 and went to Stanford naturally garnered him all the unnecessary "Next John Elway" hype from Cowboys fans and the media.
..
In 2002, Hutchinson battled for the starting QB job with Quincy Carter, which Carter inevitably won and then lost mid-season after he let the crack do the talking in a heated exchange with Jones on the sidelines. Hutchinson's numbers in the 9 games he played that season were expectantly horrid: 50% completion percentage, 7 TDs, 8 INTs, sacked 34 times.
..
It would be the last significant time he would see as a Cowboys starting QB. In 2003, Hutchinson threw all of 2 passes, completing 1 for 8 yards. He was then sent to NFL Europe before being released after new czar Bill Parcells brought in Vinny Testaverde and Drew Henson in 2004. Hutchinson would end up with the Bears after Rex Grossman(back when he was oft-injured Rex Grossman and not 4-INT Rex Grossman) suffered yet another season ending injury. Hutchinson took over for Kordell Stewart(Quick! Let's see how many mediocre QBs we can fit into this blog! Someone yell out Spergeon Wynn!) and his numbers in his five games with Chicago were slightly better than in Dallas: 57% completion percentage, 4 TDs, 3 INTs, sacked 23 times.....in 5 games.
..
After Grossman went down yet again in the preseason in 2005, Hutchinson emerged as the starter but was inevitably pulled for a young rookie QB out of Purdue named Kyle Orton. Hutchinson would drop all the way to fourth on the depth chart behind sure-fire Hall of Famers Jeff Blake and Kurt Kittner. Hutchinson would "retire" at the end of the 2005 season(Translation: Nobody was stupid enough to sign him again) and that was the last we heard from him.
..
So let's give a large golf clap for the man heralded as "The Next Elway" but ended up "The Next Cade McNown"......Chad Hutchinson, everybody!
